Saturday morning. 9 AM. Walking home from the bus, got off a few stops too early. Spent the night at a trick’s house. Connected so well together, had the most amazing sex. Watched Beverly Hill Chihuahua afterwards. So cute. Got up at 7, made toast together and had some orange juice and coffee in his cramped kitchenette. Helped clean up the 300 sq ft studio with a view of the parking lot next door. Across the street was a male strip club. The walls were just thin enough to hear the traffic most of the night. The trick was about my age, shorter, brown hair, and an adorable face that to this day makes me smile to see. I’ll never forget his name or our time together. I took the bus home in the morning and a song came on my iPod that I had never heard before. It soared and swayed, it tingled and teased, it literally moved me so much I had to get off the bus early to run down the street, arms wide open, singing the refrain at anyone I passed. This was life. This was worth it.

I give this song to you because it saved me. It gave me hope and inspiration. It transformed a great night into a mind-blowing event, lifting me up, higher, higher, as I lay panting, gasping for air on my front steps, out of breath from singing in the rain. It has never failed to give me hope no matter what I’m going through. If it can do the same for even just one of you, I will have made my mark on the world.
